Choosing A Confirmation Sponsor:
Choosing a Confirmation sponsor is important, and the Church spells out some basic requirements.  The word "sponsor" comes from the same root as "responsible," and a well-chosen sponsor should be able to help you grow in our faith.  When choosing a sponsor, please keep the below in mind.  If you are experiencing complications in choosing a sponsor or if you have questions, please contact the Fr. Stubeda or Lori Penas.
Your sponsor needs to be mature.
Your sponsor must be Catholic.
Your sponsor must be baptized, Confirmed and receiving the Eucharist.
If your sponsor is married, they must be married according to the Church ~ meaning that their marriage must have taken place in the Church.  If your sponsor was married outside of the Church (i.e. in a park, at someone's home, at the beach, etc.), then their marriage must have been blessed by the Church according to the guidelines.
Choose a sponsor who is actively practicing his or her faith and who will assist you as you prepare for Confirmation, present you to the Bishop for anointing, and will support you in the years ahead as you discover the gifts of the Holy Spirit unfolding in your life.
